Independence Day

The 4th of July is getting closer. I know you can hardly wait for the fireworks. Until then have a little refresher in American history. Read this Squidoo lens about July 2nd and Independence day. It tells the history we tend to forget while getting caught up in customs.

Summer Break and Bible study

It's that time again. Kids are out for Summer break. The last thing on their minds is going to be studying. That's exactly what they should be doing though; at least part of the time. Not doing so can mean starting next school year stagnant. Sweeping out the cobwebs and the pool water. Many have to get their minds back in the academic mode.

Summer time study doesn't have to seem like schoolwork though. You can make them think they are having fun. Once the whining stops they may have fun after all. Libraries are full of education books in story form. While they are being entertained they will learn something.

Remember academics aren't the only thing kids need to know. Most importantly children need to know God and The Lord Jesus. You may think telling kids to read the bible will cause more moaning than telling them to study. It's in the approach. Kids love action movies and stories. Use that to your advantage. Tell them a little bit about David. Most will know that he slew Goliath but David did more than that. He had to rescue sheep from a lion and a bear. To make things more interesting look for bibles made for young people. Many are illustrated to satisfy children's visual stimulation needs.

Think back to the bible stories you loved as a child. Tell them enough to spark their interests. How you give them the reading material is up to you. You can surprise them with a book or take them along to the book store or library. Make sure to guide them along in their study. There is more than just the action. They also need to learn to walk like Christ.

Take time to ask your child questions and see what they have learned. A smile on my children's faces always brings me joy. When they are smiling because of God my joy is even greater. Does your child like crossword puzzles? Here are four based on The Bible.
